RiverSweep 2019 is Saturday, May 11, 2019 8:30—12 Noon
West Creek Reservation, Parma, OH
Who? NEOCHMM Members, Family, kids and Friends---all are welcome! (Please sign-up by calling Mark Baumgardner 330-864-5560 so we can plan the event. However, you can just show up at the event !)
When? Saturday May 11, 2019---8:30 AM--12 NOON
What ? For the Twelfth Consecutive Year, we will partner with the West Creek Conservancy ("WCC”) to beautify the upper reaches of West Creek. This year we will be planting tree and shrubs in a lot near the confluence of West Creek. We will also do a general clean-up of the area. West Creek crosses 6600 East Schaaf Road in Independence. West Creek is tributary to the Cuyahoga River.
Where? We will meet and park in the field services facility of C&K Industrial at 6591 East Schaaf Road in Independence, OH. The lot we are working on is immediately next door. This is across the street from Indy Equipment and just west of Cloverleaf Animal Hospital. (Do not confuse C&K’s field services facility, with their headquarters further west on Schaaf.) You can access Schaaf Road from the west via Granger Road. You can access Schaaf Road from the east via SR. 21/Brecksville Road. Look for the sign on the left saying Old Brecksville Road. Take Old Brecksville Road past Precision Environmental, under the I-77 Bridge and the road becomes Fuhmeyer Road, then East Schaaf Road as you come into Independence.
Why? This is our annual "hands-on" service project that is done in one half day. Most environmental groups coordinate their efforts on this day to have a greater impact on the region. RiverSweep is coordinated through the Ohio Canal Corridor Association. How? Wear old clothing in layers. Wear Hiking Boots or Rubber Boots as the lot may be soft or muddy. Bring your favorite digging tool. We will be handing out gloves and tools to plant trees. We have other tasks for those who do not want to plant. Refreshments and Tshirts will be provided.
More! Check neochemm.org for frequent updates or call Mark Baumgardner at 330-864-5560, if you can attend or need more information. A message with a cell phone number will be on that phone on the day of the event. In the event of lightning or heavy rain, call that number to verify the event will be rescheduled.
